California Diesel Climb to Unprecedented USD7.45
The new benchmark eclipses the previous all-time high of 7.012 dollars per gallon recorded in June 2022, and represents a sharp acceleration from last week's statewide average of 7.018 dollars per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association. Nationally, the average retail diesel price stood at 5.454 dollars per gallon on Tuesday — roughly two dollars below California's figure.
The surge is not limited to diesel. Regular gasoline across the state has also climbed steeply, hitting 5.887 dollars per gallon — a jump of more than 1.24 dollars compared to just one month ago.
Diesel holds significant weight in California's fuel economy. Data from the California Energy Commission show the fuel accounts for 17 percent of total state fuel sales, ranking it second only to gasoline among transportation fuels.
